One of the bigger townhomes in Figment's portfolio is Vignette House, a three-story building. Probably constructed in the 1890s, the house had embellishments added as it changed ownership during the ensuing decades. Later, in 1991, URA designated it as a conservation building. The home is situated in Singapore's historic preservation district of Blair Plain, the broader low-lying region extending from Kampong Bahru Road to the sea, and adjacent to the revered NUS Baba House.
Depending on traffic, a car ride to the CBD takes 13–15 minutes, and about 20–25 minutes via public transportation
The house's distinctive jalousie windows and geometric architectural elements are accentuated in white, while the outside is painted a distinctive burnt orange. A pair of plaques styled to resemble Chinese scrolls are located over the first floor windows, and a green Chinese glazed tile ornamental canopy roof completes the architectural design. The three upper-floor windows are decorated with Georgian fanlights. The house's back also has an unusual spiral staircase that connects all three stories, despite being small and unwieldy. When there was no public sewage system in place, the stairway was originally used for night laborers filling buckets from various floors.
The idea behind Vignette House was inspired by Figment's desire to honor Hugh Tan, the home's owner, for his contributions to Singapore's theater community. The theatricality of materials, specifically the multiple meanings that materials acquire as a result of human interaction (both individually and collectively), is emphasized by the house when considering of theatre in relation to art. Fajrina Razak and Nandita Mukand, the two featured artists, each represent this theme in an own way. Their creations add color and poignant narratives to the home.
